RE: Exhaust Brake
There is a dealer installed option from Cummins for the 06/07 5.9CTD, plug and play, warranty is kept as well. The kit can be purchased at your neighborhood Dodge/Chrysler dealer.
RE: Can I drink alcohol in my RV if parked????
While I'm not sure of the laws as they apply to private parking lots (Wall Mart lot is private) and of course laws vary from place to place.. I had a drunk run into my vehicle in an Applebee's parking lot. The officer that came didn't issue fault and told the drunk to walk next door (Target) and hang out for a while.
This would totally make me upset. There could be more circumstances here, but the way I'm reading this, the officer didn't do his job.
I've always heard it comes down to whether your keys are in the ignition or not. I guess keys in the ignition shows intent to drive.
might add too, whether the keys are in arms reach, even tho you aren't in the driver seat. small story... My brother knew he was over .08, knew he shouldn't drive, but didn't have a way home. So he decided to be responsible and not drive, but had no where to go, no ride home, so he decided he would sleep in his truck. An officer found him asleep in his truck, keys in his pocket, took him to HQ, even tho my brother told him that he was being responsible, but had no way of getting home. The officer waited for almost 2hrs before he got him to blow, he came in under .08, let him go and offered him a ride home. He told him that there was possible intent to drive because he was in reach of the keys for the vehicle. My brother thought the officer understood that he had no intent on driving, hence the 2hr delay for a breathalizer, but the keys were on his person.
RE: Dually vs. Single Rear Wheel
You could definately do it with a SRW, but for stability, and only stability, I would have a DRW. It's the length of the trailer that will cause stablility issues, the SRW will work, but not as well as DRW. JMO
RE: Towing a Nissan 350 Z
I don't see a problem. DW drives the RV, you drive the 350! All kidding aside, if the manufacturer states that it is towable, then I would tow it. For the ground clearance, do you worry about the ground clearance when you drive it day to day? I'm sure on certain instances you would be careful when driving day to day, but I think if you carried these same precautions when towing the car, nothing has changed. If it's lowered... buy a trailer.
RE: Can I drink alcohol in my RV if parked????
I think if you show intent that you are not driving, blinds drawn, jacks down, and your not sitting in the driver seat with keys in reach, then they (police) would have to draw the conclusion that you are not driving, and don't show intent on driving, thus could not initiate any tests.
RE: Got our new TC, Looking for advice.
ditto what pjay9 said. The tire pressures should be up the 70's as well (rear only).
I would say the tires are the issue here...they are not made for what you are doing to them. I bet if you went back to your stock wheels and some really good truck tires with a 10 or 12 ply rating you'd be happy! But going to 19.5 would do the job for sure. I think your original wheel was 16" try finding some steel in a bigger size and get good tires or go directly to 19.5 and pass go and pay much more than $200. AHHH! (Monopoly ref) MKW makes dually 19.5's and then larger sizes that are not (.5) designated Commercial wheel.
TIRES TIRES that's IT!!! You have the rest of the solutions covered already, sway, shock, air...I don't have any of those on my dually just 19.5's and away we go...totally different handling and ride...LOVE 'EM! Capt PJ
RE: Dummy with a Diesel
Al B
Do not confuse the 1K RPM hi idle when cold (to help initial engine warm up) with the 'Cruise control hi idle' which is there for times of extended idle (eg northern Canada in winter) & for use w/ a PTO (power take off)
JMHO
OK, let's try this again (power just went out as I was about to push the POST MESSAGE button).
Ok, that makes sense now. I didn't realize that there were two high idles. I find that the auto high idle works, but I think the difference between 1000RPM and 1500RPM would be the cab would be a little warmer sitting in a parking lot on a cold day waiting for DW. I have installed an Espar heater, which is absolutely the way to go for intial starts on cold days. Engine is warm enough the grid heater does not come on, the windows are defrosted, and the cab is toasty warm (sometimes as hot as a 35C day, depending on length of time the heater was run). Ever bin late for work, jump out of your warm bed, put on your clothes, then charge out the door into a cold wasteland and get into a cold vehicle when you are still feeling the warming effects of that nice warm bed and soft pillow?? lol The heater is just like that warm bed! lol
RE: 2005 DODGE RAM 3500 CTD WITH 48RE TRANSMISSION
I know there's a lot of 05/48RE's with exhaust brakes......even some that were dealer installed, but officially, Chrysler said our year 48RE was not designed to work with an exhaust brake due to a very inexpensive, tranny part that was changed in 2006 models to allow warranty coverage.
If this "inexpensive" tranny part is part of the problem, why couldn't the tranny be "upgraded" as part of the kit for the EB? I know my EB makes a huge diffence on how much I use the service brakes, even through the mountains loaded.
RE: Dummy with a Diesel
I checked out the link, but from my understanding this TSB is for engines manufactured before 12/03 My truck utilizes high idle when cold, after 2 minutes of operation, or immediately when really cold, but only to 1000RPM. Are you able to adjust your high idle without a flash? I'm going to try the cruise thing now that I have some direction from your link.
Thanks for the link by the way!
Has to be programmed by the dealer.
RE: Leaving TV tires aired up?
I do agree with contact patch, but what I don't agree with, is the wear pattern on these LT tires. I run 75 PSI in the rear, year round, (I never know when I'm gonna be hauling weight), and my tires are wearing perfectly in the rear. The fronts are at 47PSI, and they too are wearing perfectly. I do find on wet pavement that it tends to break loose (no load) if I'm not careful, but keeps my driving skills in tune! ha ha Tire manufactuers put ratings on them for a reason. I would not hesitate to keep a tire near 80 PSI, for any amount of time. The only thing you will gain by lowering the pressure, is some contact patch, a little smoother ride, and a pain in the butt to put them back to 80 when the time comes. JMHO tho..
RE: Dummy with a Diesel
ib516, is there a way of increasing the high idle on the 5.9? I have tried the cruise trick, but not sure if I'm not doing it right, or if it has to be done with at the confuser.
High idle feature is available on older trucks too. You use the cruise control to set the idle speed at whatever you want - up to 1500 RPM.
RE: Dummy with a Diesel
Ditto, and one more vote for CJ-4 Amsoil!
Since this is your one and only transportation:
1) Do not idle it for long periods of time.
2) use the EB all the time
3) Make sure to drive for about 45 minutes at highway speed with out the cruise control on once a week or so.
4) Get to a good Dodge Cummins dealer and have them do the latest flash and O2 sensor update. This should eliminate your major chances of CEL's
5) Have the dealer turn on the high idle feature and teach you how to use it.
6) At the same time, they can turn on such niceties as DLR's, fog lights and high beams. A good dealer will do this for free for you.
RE: RV trade show purchases?
Absolutely do your homework. They rely on the peeps that don't know what a good price is. If you go in knowing the highs and lows, you can suggest the low price to the sales person, and that it would make them a little richer if they accept.
RE: Scratches
If it's paint on the vehicle, then I would think you are ok with polish and wax, if it's the siding on the camper, then I would tread lightly with the polisher, there isn't much paint on there!
Got pics?
